Appears to be the 1st ediiton on 1870, with 8 B&W plates, & 6pp publisher's asvertisements at rear. Owner's name on front pastedown dated 1872. End papers lightly foxed; spine a little bumped at head & foot; elaborate gilt decoration on spine & front board bright.

Previous owner's in all three books; lacks front free end paper of vol.1; binding tight; pages clean with some light foxing & yellowing; page 193/4 of volume 3 has been partially burnt and has loss of approx. 2 inches; facing pages a little scorched; half bound in purple cloth with marbled boards; all boards significantly worn and scuffed, and volume 3 has a large chip in edge of front board front; spines worn, bumped and faded.
